Ivan passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2021. We lost a highly recognized and respected colleague who was a great mentor and member of our team. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and his relatives.
Ivan graduated from Technical University of Sofia (then VMEI Sofia) in 1970, majoring in Electronic Engineering. He completed his doctoral dissertation in 1977 at TU-Sofia on the topic “Research and design of active filters with operational amplifiers”.
Professional activity: Researcher at VMEI-Sofia (1970), Research Fellow (1971-1980). Since 1981 Ivan worked at the Institute of Radio Electronics and Institute of Communication Industry (1985-1990), as a research associate and later as section manager. In 1988 he became a senior research associate.
In 1990, together with several engineers from the Institute of Communications Industry, he founded ProCom, now Smartcom-Bulgaria AD.
Between 2001 and 2008 Ivan moved to Finland to assume the role of senior researcher at Tampere University of Technology (TUT). From 2008 to 2012 he was associate professor at the Department of Communication Networks at TU-Sofia.
From 2013 to 2019, Ivan was chief scientific advisor at Smartcom – Bulgaria.
In 2019, Globalfoundries acquired Smartcom’s microelectronics department and Ivan assumed responsibility for the co-op program of Globalfoundries Bulgaria and served as thesis and doctoral advisor to many GF engineers.
Teaching work: (1976- 1983) Developed exercises in "Theory of electronic circuits". (1992-1993) Lectures on "Automation of design in communication technology" in TU-Sofia. (1996-1998) Lectures on "Digital Signal Processing". (2009-2012) Lectures on "Communication Networks and Terminals" and "Design Automation Workshop".
At Tampere University of Technology he led lectures and exercises on: "Analog Circuit Design" (2001-2008), "Basic Communication Circuits" (2003-2008) and High-Frequency Filters (2004-2007).
Scientific fields: Theory of electrical circuits, Analog filters, Analog circuitry, Computer simulation and design of analog circuits, digital signal processing.
Scientific and publishing activity: scientific publications – 87; copyright certificates – 3; patents – 4; He is a co-author in two books. Participated in significant developments related to the research and design of electronic circuits and communication equipment. Senior member of IEEE.
Ivan is survived by his wife (Bistra), two children - Violeta Uzunova, software engineer, and Dr. Vladislav Uznunov, signal processing researcher, and 4 grandchildren.
