Smartcom xCPE

Powerful features for providing better internet at home

Optimized residential gateway with customizable embedded software and a centralized management system that proactively monitors the Ethernet and Wi-Fi to provide the best customer experience at any end device.

75437783_m.jpg

Need

Consumers are evolving digitally. The increasing number of connected IoT devices at home and the demand for streaming are boosting traffic growth.

Connected devices at home will amount to more than 7 per person by 2022, according to Cisco.

The high use of the home network results in Wi-Fi bottlenecks that prevent customers from enjoying the full benefits of their devices.

Currently 60% of all customer service calls are being linked to home Wi-Fi network issues.

Improve customer satisfaction and lower support costs through a better quality of experience

Features

A centralized system proactively tracks and manages the Wi-Fi signal and the Ethernet performance of the router.

Various tests collect deep statistical data in the background and on-demand.

Smartcom's xCPE is managed via TR-069 Auto Configuration Servers (ACS).

Fully customizable firmware based on open technologies to integrate special telecom requirements.

Hardware costs are controlled through battle-tested reference hardware designs that are manufactured at scale.

Success

Two major service providers (more than 1 million subscribers each) have deployed over 200 000 Smartcom xCPEs and are able to deliver superior end-customer internet experience.

The on-demand tests lead to faster support call resolution.

The rich historical analysis is helpful in evaluating operational performance, the impact of network changes, and the quality effects of new asset investments

Smartcom Synapse

Connects the edge of IoT projects

Modular edge device based on open standards which comprises sensors, communications, power, CPU and software, all tailored to the specific use case requirements, such as smart metering.

HOME_42_82163872_m.jpg

Need

The Internet of Things offers a wealth of opportunities.

The focus of most IoT companies is on platforms and applications. They often ignore the edge of the IoT project where the actual data is collected from the sensors (things).

The complexity of IoT integration often surprises customers during IoT projects that involve the installation or integration of various components at the edge.

Connectivity is an important challenge depending on the environmental conditions and the data needs.

The power is also a challenge, especially in remote locations that require batteries and power-hungry radio.

Features

We can read any sensor: dry contact, reed ampule, analog, digital, Modbus, proprietary interfaces.

We can connect to any radio or hardline connection. Currently implemented with: NB-IoT, 3G/4G, LoRa, flavours, Ethernet, etc.

Modular design that can be quickly customized to fit the extremely diverse needs of IoT implementations.

Smartcom Synapse has IP68 rating and can operate from -20 to +75 С.

Based on open standards, open technologies and readily available components to make integration easier and to avoid vendor lock-in.

All features can be extended and enhanced to fulfill specific project requirements

Success

Water metering:

The municipal water utility (Veolia-operated) in Bulgaria's capital required a device to collect data from the already installed meters used to monitor the water network.

The modular design of Smartcom Synapse enabled its rapid modification to fit stringent requirements with respect to environmental shielding, cellular connectivity, ease of remote installation, resetting, and management.

The customer was able to achieve its goals without making a large investment in replacing the meters that still have many remaining years of useful life.

This is a typical IoT project in which existing assets are enhanced in place by adding connectivity. We have also modified the design to customer requirements for electricity metering.

Smartcom FiberEye

Alerts to cable faults before they can affect services

Centralized and proactive system which monitors for cable cuts and faults. Advanced algorithms that track fiber health over time enable service providers to conduct preventive maintenance.

FIBER_CUT.jpg

Need

Fiber cuts cause 10% of all service outages. The inability to repair these cuts in a timely manner could result in financial losses and bad customer experience.

Most telecoms do not have visibility over the physical layer of their network - the outside plant (OSP).

Traditional fault isolation is too slow for the modern speed of your business. Typically, service providers detect faults by monitoring the active devices and have a reactive approach with hand-held OTDRs.

This is time-consuming, requires lengthy, expensive truck-rolls and does not provide real-time operational information.

Features

A centralized system which connects to permanently installed remote testing units (RTUs), based on an OTDR technology. All events are displayed on a map with precise coordinates. The system can be integrated within the telecom's operational workflow.

Monitor automatically, 24/7 all three key elements of the outside plant: fiber cables, copper cables and critical infrastructure elements such as manhole covers and communications cabinets.

The patented opto-mechanical sensor can detect open-close events without the need for a power source. The telecom can protect assets in harsh conditions or in places where power is unavailable.

Prevent faults before they happen. FIber cables age with time. Construction activities, effects from bad weather and other risks can usually be detected before they cause cable cuts.

Success

Smartcom FiberEye was implemented at an incumbent telecom operator with more than 1 million subscribers.

The customer claimed that the system paid for itself within one year just by preventing copper cable theft.

Currently, more than 2000 cables (more than 250 of which are fiber), 10000 km, and 800 manholes and cabinets are being protected. The event database has more than 10 million recorded events.
